COACHES
– Requires age specific and safe haven training for certification.
Training is provided to show new coaches everything that they need to do
for a successful and enjoyable season. This is by far the most
rewarding of all positions in youth sports.
REFEREES
– Requires approximately 9 hours of training for certification. This
job certainly is much easier as your understanding and knowledge of the
game increases, but experience is not required. The training will
provide you with all the information you will need to manage games. We
have been trying to get a parent from each team to be the designated ref
for their games. We will not ask you to miss your own children’s games
to work elsewhere. A certified referee is required for every U10, U12
and U14 games. The best way to insure that your children aren’t
disappointed by a game being cancelled because there is no referee is to
become one. The games are primarily educational at the younger levels
and are much less demand on referees. If you start at an early age with
your children you will find it reasonably easy to stay a step ahead of
the demands of the age group you will be refereeing.
FIELD MAINTENANCE
– The biggest part of this is the painting. The game fields only need
to be laid out once in the Fall and once in the Spring. This can take
several hours initially, but once done the upkeep of the lines is quick
and easy. The other part of field maintenance is the care of goals
and nets, and filling holes to keep the area safe. After the goals and
nets are set they need very little attention, so it is usually done in
the Spring for both seasons and then an eye kept on their condition.
The ground condition is something that all players, coaches, and parents
can watch for and if something needs attention it can be reported to the
maintenance volunteer to address.
FIELD COORDINATOR –
This
position is responsible for coordinating volunteers to keep the fields
maintained and making sure someone places corner flags on the fields and
pick them up at the end of each game day.
FIELD SCHEDULER
– Maintain the schedule for practice fields and make up games. Contact
for coaches to schedule their practice times. This is usually done in
the fall and the coaches maintain the same schedule for both fall and
spring seasons.
REFEREE SCHEDULER
– Schedule referees for U10, U12 and U14 Home games. Assist with
recruiting volunteers to referee. Ensure that new referee volunteers
attend certification.
PICTURE ORGANIZER
– Contact and schedule photographer to take pictures. Usually done
early in the Fall season. Communicate schedule to coaches and
distribute picture forms. Once pictures are done, contact coaches and
make arrangement with them to pick up their teams pictures.
OTHER MISCELLANEOUS
ACTIVITIES
– Assist community coordinator with duties related to keeping the
organization running. Such as: Assisting with mailings or phone calls
to coaches and other volunteers. Help in organizing registration
(flyers to the schools, ads in newspaper, working at registration).
